I close my eyes and her laughter drifts to me, her lips at my ear, my neck, her bite an aching anticipation, her gentle embrace a heady bliss.
At the window, I see her boot prints in the snow below me, the world outside gone dead.

She fractures my dreams.
I wake up coated in a sheen of sweat, a shadow passing in front of my apartment window. Cotton in my mouth, teeth marks on my chest, there is a stinging sensation up and down my back, my sheets dotted with blood.

Richard was the winner of the ChiZine Publications 2009 “Enter the World of Filaria” contest.
